DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:
See referee report.
REFEREE REPORT:
#9 Kent (Goodie) Goodhew on the rusty blades, was unhappy, after an opponent skated towards him and almost collided with him, but did not make contact. He then skated as fast as he could towards the player, and dropped his shoulder into his chest and violently bodychecked him. Knocking him down to the ice and injuring him. Everyone was yelling and upset with him from the other team, I already had my arm up for a penalty and convinced them not to go after him as I had the call. Which was a major penalty for roughing and a game misconduct. #9 left without incident and players from both teams agreed it was the right call and can't be tolerated in this league.
WITNESS REPORTS:
No additional information to add.
DEFENDANT REPORT:
Uncontested.
COMMENTS AND CONCERNS:
Hockey is sometimes an emotional event, but we cannot allow frustration to lead to violence. We can be competitive without causing harm to another. At our age, we are potentially more prone to injury, and healing time takes longer. We cannot allow this kind of behaviour.
DECISION:
The call on the ice is accepted and no hearing is called for. An automatic suspension of 1 game is impose for a Game Misconduct in the last 10 minutes any further incidents by Mr Goodhew will result in a much longer suspension.
